Heat Policy

 Heat Policy  The athletic trainer is responsible for measuring the temp and humidity and using the heat index chart to determine if it is safe to play or if practice needs to be modified in any way. It is the coach’s responsibility to measure the temp and humidity, if the athletic trainer is not present, to determine if it is safe to practice and make any accommodations necessary. The following are the parameters to be followed to determine if a practice is safe to continue without any changes or if there needs to be restrictions or changes.

 80- 90 degree heat index is safe to practice and play, however athletes should be given multiple water breaks.

90- 104 degree heat index is safe to practice or play, however practice will require some modification.

  • Frequent water breaks
  • Limit cinditioning time
  • Equioment intensice sports should practice without pads or limit the amount of time pads ore being worn

105- 129 degree heat index practice should be changed to early in the morning, late in the evening or moved indoors.

130 + degree heat index practice must be cancelled
