Citation Builder Websites
Remember when using an online citation builder, you should input the information yourself.
You should not rely on the website to complete the citation for you, as sometimes these websites can make mistakes.
Information To Include in Citations
  • Book Citation:
    • Title of the Book
    • Author of the Book
    • Publisher
    • Publication City (the first one listed)
    • Copyright Year (the most recent)
  • Website Citation:
    • URL
    • Date of Publication (newest copyright year, if there is no actual date)
    • Date you Viewed the Website
    • Title of the Article/Webpage
    • Author of the Article (leave blank if there is not one listed)
    • Name of the Website
    • Publisher of the Website (normally at the bottom, next to the copyright year)
  • Online Database Citation:
    • All of the online databases we have a subscription for, cite the articles for you.
  • Other Types of Citations (Magazine, Newspaper, Interview, Video,etc.):
    • Consult the websites below to understand the information you will need to create your citation.

Parenthetical (In-Text) Citations

 In-Text Citations always go at the end of your sentence in parenthesis. Your period goes after the citation.

    •   For example: (Smith 13).
  • If there is no page number, only include the author.
    • For example: (Smith).
  • If there is no author, use the title of the article.
    • For example: ("The Secrets of Ancient Greece").
      •  The title of the article goes in quotes.
    • For example: (The Secrets of Ancient Rome)
      • If there is no author or title of the article, put the name of the website in italics.
